About TOWN
In 1993, Texas Parks and Wildlife adopted the Becoming An Outdoors Woman Program (BOW) initiated by Christine Thomas at the University of Wisconsin. The first Texas BOW workshop was held in Brownwood, TX, and introduced women to a wide variety of outdoor skills.

As BOW retreats progressed around the state, Texas Parks and Wildlife noticed that women were coming back to the same workshops again and again. They soon discovered that once women got back home, there was no one there to share their new experiences. The idea for TOWN was born!

Local chapters
TOWN chapters have been established in major cities across the state, including Austin, Dallas, El Paso, Houston, Lubbock, San Antonio, San Marcos and Waco. Each TOWN organization is independent from the others and free to develop its own by-laws and mission. However, all TOWN chapters communicate on a regular basis. We share trip information and often work together on exciting adventures. TOWN coordinators and guests meet once a year at a TOWN State Coordinator’s Conference to exchange ideas and help new chapters get established.

TOWN Dallas
The Dallas TOWN organization was established in March 1999. Our mission is to provide all women with the opportunity to learn about and experience outdoor activities in natural surroundings in a non-threatening, safe and supportive environment. We are a 501 c7 non-profit organization. All the women involved in TOWN Dallas volunteer their time and expertise to encourage and teach women about the joys of learning new skills and being self-sufficient in the outdoors.
